Exclusive Transformers 2 Image!

On July 2, 2009, Paramount released a new image of Optimus Prime from Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. The shot, which comes from the studio’s blockbuster sequel, is available exclusively on this site. Check it out:

As all five of my faithful readers probably already know, I’ve been writing a lot about Transfomers: Revenge of the Fallen lately, and earned a dubious (albeit rewarding) reputation because of it. After my initial review posted on Cinematical.com, Roger Ebert picked up the pull-quote I used in my Rotten Tomatoes link and used it as the punch line to his own terrific, albeit decidedly more negative assessment of the film. Subsequently he rejiggered the end of his review because it (like many) took the line out of context, and to more than make up for it – and to be fair, even a dig from Ebert is better than a kudos from many others – he mentioned me again in a column about movie robots, calling me “most reasonable,” a descriptor I am currently having printed on my business cards.

On Monday I appeared on G4’s Attack of the Show opposite the formidable Devin Faraci of Chud.com to defend my position on Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, and while Devin’s a passionate, articulate and incredibly talented fellow, I think I managed to hold my own pretty well – especially given the fact that I’m still largely a newcomer to broadcast work.

Click here to check out my G4 appearance. Ater the debate Monday, a Cinematical reader pointed out that I’ve been referenced again, in no less than the film’s marketing materials; apparently I have called the film a “masterpiece,” although the full context of that word is evidently not provided in TV spots.

  1. I read your stuff, lover. Make that SIX readers. :)

  2. A bad movie

  3. Nice Photo. Loved TROTF for what it was! A eye popping summer blockbuster popcorn movie flick!!

Is this some kind of studio marketing gimmick? Social Media Networking?

  5. I need to see this image bigger, looks crazy. I unlike many enjoyed the movie, it was enjoyable and made me feel like a little kid again.

  6. THE MOVIE WAS FANTASTIC. Damn the lofty idiots who’s only purpose in life is to kick other people and their work (a film is a creation of so many peoples effort). Revenge of the fallen was EXACTLY in tune with the world of the Transformers and it was loyal to the “visual and cinematic language” of that world. It was a brilliantly entertaining movie– for once worth the ticket’s price.
The lofty idiots who don’t like Transformers like slow-snail-paced-terrible movies which have no ending– and therefore are hailed in a stupid manner as “cinematic art” (I.E. all coen bros movies…). Give me a break.

Those who don’t care about Transformers or Michael Bay movies… WHY THE HELL DO THEY KEEP COMING BACK TO SEE THEM? Just to bash them?! Get a life or a healthier hobby, you lofty A-holes!! I hope they come crashing down from the lofty pedestal they’ve put their lofty behinds on!

      SASSON,

ROTF was NOT in tune with the world of Transformers, nor was it “brilliantly entertaining”. Maybe you are 16 years old and have not seen a lot of movies, but here is a brief list of why it was not good- unlike the first one which was fun to see in the theater.

      1. Special effects were very poor. I don’t know if it was the cut or the screen size that made it so apparent, but compared to the first movie the animation was very poor. At times the characters did not have their text maps on or they moved like it was stop motion. Other times they looked perfect. I think they tried to do too much and ran out of time and money.

      2. Story was all over the place. You could tell that there was a writers strike. The first was coherent and was a fun story. In this movie the climax of the film is two 19 year olds saying they love each other. The story was all thrown together and just dopy. Very disappointing.

      3. Fight scenes. Except for the rumble in the woods (which had poor animation in it as well), the fight scenes were terrible. Why did it take only one shot to kill Devastator? Why did I not see one Autobot (outside of BB) fight a Decpticon during the main battle? Why did highly advanced robots fight using 18th century strategies? Worst of all, if I wanted to watch a movie about the US military fighting aliens, I would watch ID4, but I paid money to be entertained watching robots beat the hell out of each other- somehow they forgot that in the mess they called a movie.
